Gemini-12 pilot Buzz Aldrin follows command pilot Jim Lovell up the ramp to the elevator that will carry them to their spacecraft atop Cape Kennedy's Launch Complex 19. Lovell carries a gag-card that was presented to the white room personnel.

Atop the White Room at the Cape's Complex 19 launch personnel prepare to insert Gemini 12 astronauts Edwin Aldrin, left, and James Lovell, into their spacecraft at the start of the four-day orbital mission. The basket attached to the spacecraft was put there as a joke for the space pilots to deposit on-board experiments in it before the flight.

Gemini-12 astronauts Jim Lovell (left) and Buzz Aldrin exchange gifts with launch personnel in the "white room" atop Cape Kennedy's Launch Complex 19.

The astronauts were launched at 3:46 p.m. EST on November 11, 1966, only 98 minutes after their Agena target vehicle was orbited from adjacent Launch Complex 14.

A wonderful seamless double exposure of the Gemini 12 and the GT-12 Atlas Agena launches.

98 minuets after the Atlas Agena was launched from Complex 14 the Gemini Titan - 12 followed from Complex 19 with Lovell and Aldrin on board.

Gemini 12 Splashdown

The spacecraft containing Gemini 12 astronauts James Lovell and Edwin Aldrin, splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean at 2:21 p.m., 14 November 1966, following their 94 1/2 hour Earth orbital flight. The space pilots impacted more that 600 miles east of Cape Kennedy, about three miles from the prime recovery ship, the USS Wasp., following their flawless automatic re-entry. This, the last in the series of Gemini missions, Aldrin was the last Gemini Astronaut to walk in space.

Gemini 12 Recovery Operations Begin

A Navy pararescueman jumps from helicopter into the Atlantic waters and is the first of many to arrive moments after the Gemini 12 spacecraft splashed down. The first task will be to attach the flotation collar around the spacecraft to keep it floating until the recovery ship arrives.
