Apollo 11 Saturn V stack stand proud on its mobile launcher during final checks before lift off at LC 39A to start the historic first Manned Lunar Landing Mission.

This very fine vintage NASA glossy photograph would be in mint condition but it has a slight crease along the upper right corner that is even hard to see using reflected light. I feel the detail that can be seen in this fine photo easily makes up for that minor flaw.

A fine view of the Crater Daedalus on the lunar far-side as seen from the Apollo 11 spacecraft in lunar orbit. This view looks southwest. Daedalus (formerly referred to as I.A.U. Crater No. 308) is located at 179 degrees east longitude and 5.5 degrees south latitude. Daedalus has a diameter of about 50 statute miles. This is a typical scene showing the rugged terrain on the far-side of the moon.

The deployment of the flag of the United States on the surface of the moon is captured on film during the first Apollo 11 lunar landing mission. Here, astronaut Neil  Armstrong, commander, stands on the left at the flag's staff. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, lunar module pilot, is also pictured. This photograph was taken from film exposed by the 16mm Data Acquisition Camera (DAC) which was pointing out the window from inside the Lunar Module.

The black shadow of the Apollo 11 Lunar module is silhouetted against the Moon's surface in this photograph taken from inside the lunar module. The lunar surface extravehicular activity of Astronauts Neil A. Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin Jr. was conducted on July 20, 1969. Impressions in the lunar soil made by the boots of the two astronauts are clearly visible.

Two components of the Early Apollo Scientific Experiments Package (EASEP) are seen deployed on the lunar surface in this view photographed from inside the Lunar Module Eagle. In the far background is the Passive Seismic Experiment Package (PSEP); and to the right and closer to the camera is the Laser Ranging Retro-Reflector (LR-3). The footprints of Apollo 11 astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin are very distinct in the lunar soil.

A rescue helicopter hovers above the Apollo 11 spacecraft seconds after it splashed down in the Pacific Ocean at 12:50 p.m. EDT July 24, 1969. The spacecraft turned apex down after impact but inflatable bags repositioned it shortly after this view was taken. Splashdown and recovery took place some 900 miles southwest of Hawaii.

The traditional post-flight cake cutting ceremony was altered since the Apollo 11 astronauts were confined to the Mobile Quarantine Facility. Navy personnel boxed up pieces of the recovery cake so the crew and their families could enjoy it at a later date when they are all together.

Note the Apollo 11 recovered spacecraft can be seen adjacent to the MQF in back of the Navy guys standing at attention and Neil and Buzz can be seen in the MQF window.

Apollo 11 Aldrin Checks MQF Inventory

Apollo 11 LMP Buzz Aldrin, appears to be inventorying the contents of the MQF while mission commander Neil Armstrong speaks on the telephone not long after they were welcomed onbaord the USS Hornet. The quarantine trailer will be off-loaded in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, after a 2 day voyage and then trucked to Hickam Field AFB. After arriving at Hickam Field AFB it will be loaded into a C-141 transport and from flown to MSC in Houston.

Apollo 11 Crew Relax In The MQF

Apollo 11 astronauts relax in the Mobile Quarantine Facility following there successful lunar landing mission. They spent two and one-half days in the quarantine trailer on route from the USS Hornet, prime recovery ship, to the Lunar Receiving Laboratory at MSC in Houston. It took almost two days for the USS Hornet to dock at Pearl Harbor from the recovery area where the trailer was transferred to a C-141 jet aircraft for the flight to Houston.

Neil Armstrong is in the foreground reading a news paper. M Collins, left,  and Buzz Aldrin are seen in the background.

The Apollo 11 MQF housing the astronauts, Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins, is off-loaded from the USS Hornet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After a brief welcoming ceremony, the quarantine trailer was trucked to Hickam Field AFB where is was loaded on a jet transport and flown to Houston.

This is a wonderful period photograph depicting the styles back in the 1960's. Note the sunglasses and hair styles of that era.

Apollo 11 MQF Unloaded At Ellington

A Mobile Quarantine Facility, with the three Apollo 11 crewmen inside, is unloaded from a U.S. Air Force C-141 transport at Ellington Air Force Base early Sunday after a flight from Hawaii. A large crowd was present to welcome Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin Jr. back to Houston following their historic lunar landing mission. You can clearly see Aldrin's smiling face as he watches activity through the window of the MQF.

Apollo 11 lunar sample 10004. This is the first Apollo 11 core tube opened in the Lunar Receiving Laboratory at the Manned Spacecraft Centre. The core tube has been opened in the LRL's bio-prep laboratory. Also, this is the second core tube collected by Buzz Aldrin.

Plant Growing In Lunar Soil

A close-up view of numerous fern plants growning in a sprinkling of lunar soil brought back from the lunar surface by the crew of the Apollo 11 lunar landing mission. The photograph of the fern plants was taken 50 days after the plants were exposed to the lunar matter. The plants - Ococlea Sensidilis, or more commonly known as Sensitive Fern - were photographed on a dish containing the minimal nutrients for germination. The cabbage-like, darker circle of plants, about 3/8 inch tall at the highest point, is germinating in contact with the lunar material, but the lighter coloured, blurred plant material surrounding the cabbage-like clump is not in contact with any of the lunar soil.
