Astronaut Charles M. Duke Jr., lunar module pilot, is standing in the background taking his picture with a 70 mm lunar surface camera. The photo Duke took of Young here is the famous TV Jump photo. Young, commander of the Apollo 16 lunar landing mission, leaps from the lunar surface as he salutes the U.S. Flag at the Descartes landing site during the first Apollo 16 extravehicular activity (EVA-1). Astronaut Charles M. Duke Jr., lunar module pilot, took this picture (see above photo 65-H-536). The Lunar Module (LM) "Orion" is on the left. The Lunar Roving Vehicle is parked beside the LM. The object behind Young in the shade of the LM is the Far Ultraviolet Camera/Spectrograph. Stone Mountain dominates the background in this lunar scene. SOLD Apollo 16 Ken Mattingly's Transearth EVA 10 x 8 Colour Glossy NASA Photograph NASA No. S-72-37001 25 April 1972 Thomas (Ken) Mattingly, command module pilot of the Apollo 16 lunar landing mission, performs extravehicular activity during the Apollo 16 transearth coast. Ken is assisted by Astronaut Charlie Duke during the EVA. Mattingly inspected the SIM bay of the Service Module, and retrieved film from the Mapping and Panoramic cameras. Note that Ken is wearing the helmet of Astronaut John W. Young with the commanders red stripe. This view is a frame from motion picture film exposed by the 16mm Maurer camera. This very fine vintage glossy NASA photograph would be in near mint condition but it has two small nicks in the left center border. You can see the larger of the two in the scan.
