The verification spacecraft will be used for testing purposes and will later be replaced by the Apollo flight spacecraft 103 that is undergoing checkout in the Manned Spacecraft Operations Building for the Apollo 8 Mission. £6.95 Apollo 8 Moon Over MSC View 10 x 8 B/W Glossy NASA Photograph NASA No. S68-34803 24 December 1968 A shining and far-distant Moon symbolically looks down on a busy, well-lighted Mission Control Centre (MCC) on Christmas Eve. At the moment this picture was taken, a live telecast was being received on MCC television monitors from the Apollo 8 spacecraft which was orbiting the Moon some 238,857 miles away. An Apollo 8 TV camera was photographing the lunar surface from an altitude of only 60 nautical miles. SOLD Apollo 8 Earth Rise 10 x 8 Colour NASA Photograph NASA No. 68-H-1401 The rising Earth is about five degrees above the lunar horizon in this telephoto view taken from the Apollo 8 spacecraft near 110 degrees east longitude. The horizon, about 570 kilometers (250 statute miles) from the spacecraft, is near the eastern limb of the Moon as viewed from the Earth. On the earth, the sunset terminator crosses Africa. The south pole is in the white area near the left end of the terminator. North and South America are under the clouds. The lunar surface probably has less pronounced color than indicated by this print. This NASA reissue is in good condition and has the purple worm logo and text on the back. |

SOLD Apollo 8 Moon View 10 x 8 Colour NASA Photograph NASA No. AS8-14-2506 Photograph of nearly full moon taken from the Apollo 8 spacecraft at a point above 70 degrees east longitude. Mare Crisium, the circular, dark-colored area near the center is near the eastern edge of the moon as viewed from Earth. Mare Nectaris is the ciruclar mare near the terminator. The large, irregular maria are Tranquillitatis and highlands to the south. Lunar farside features occupy most of the right half of the picture. The large, dark-colored crater Tsiolkovsky is near the limb at the lower right. Conspicuous bright rays radiate from two large craters, one to the north of Tsiolkovsky, the other near the limb in the upper half of the picture. The crater Langrenus is near the center of the picture at the eastern edge of Mare Fecunditatis. Apollo 8 splashed down at 10:51 a.m. EST on 27 December 1969 in the central Pacific Ocean Approx. 1000 miles south-southwest of Hawaii.
