Apollo 9 Saturn 504 Staging 10 x 8 B/W Glossy NASA Photograph NASA No. 69-H-416 3 March 1969 A 70mm Airborne Light-weight Optical Tracking System (ALOTS) camera mounted in a pod on a cargo door of an NKC-135 aircraft flying at 40,000 feet photographed this sequence fo the early moments of the Apollo 9 launch. In the top left and right frames, the first stage engines, generating a thrust of 7.7 million pounds, are propelling the 363-foot high Apollo Saturn V to first stage separation. At lower left, the Saturn V's first stage engines are about to shut down for staging, 2.5 minutes after lift-off when the vehicle was about 36 miles high and 50 miles downrange from the launch site. In the last frame, the mated Apollo spacecraft and second and third stages pull away from the spent first stage. This fine vintage NASA glossy photograph is in very good condition. VG+ |

SOLD Apollo 9 Arrive Onboard USS Guadalcanal 10 x 8 Colour Glossy NASA Photograph NASA No. S-69-20060 13 March 1969 The Apollo 9 crewmen arrive aboard the U.S.S. Guadalcanal, less than one hour after splashdown, as they step from a helicopter to receive a red-carpet welcome. McDivitt and Scott salute the crowd of newsmen, Navy and NASA personnel gathered to greet them. Left to right are Astronauts Russell L. Schweickart, David R. Scott, and James A. McDivitt. Splashdown occurred in the Atlantic Ocean at 12:00:53 p.m., 13 March 1969 less than five miles from the prime recovery ship, USS Guadalcanal and 780 nautical miles southeast of Cape Kennedy. And what a welcome they received during the stop over at this Bahamian island. A wonderful period shot, the hair cuts, clothes and eye glasses worn by the well-wishers is simply outstanding.
