Taken From A NASA Press Release Dated 3 January 1962 Ever since Explorer 1, the first U.S. satellite, was orbited on January 31, 1958, the nation has been expanding its space program. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) conducts the peaceful, scientific exploration of space with both manned and unmanned vehicles. Hundreds of scientists and many thousands of engineers, technicians and other workers in NASA, industry, and universities collaborates with 55 other countries in projects such as tracking satellites, training research workers, and collecting and distributing scientific data. |

SOLD Two Man Lunar Excursion Vehicle 10 x 8 B/W Glossy NASA Photograph 1962 Left photo shows a model of the two man lunar excursion vehicle (bottom) joined to the Apollo Command and Service Vehicle, as they will orbit the Moon. Centre photo depicts the way the Command and Service Vehicle will continue to orbit the Moon while the two-man vehicle lands on the lunar surface. After about one day of exploring the two Astronauts will blast off from the Moon, as shown in the right photo, to join the Apollo craft orbiting the Moon. Then, for rest of mission, day 6 through day 10, the pace will be more leisurely, and Apollo’s service rocket will be burned several more times, including a de-orbit burn to initiate re-entry, as shown in drawing. |
