Apollo SA-9 Mission A-103 Launch

A wonderful distance view of the SA-9 lifting off from Launch Complex 37B at the Cape with BP-16 onboard.

Call sign Mission A-103 was the eighth unmanned Saturn flight. It was the initial vehicle in the operational series of Saturn I launch vehicles and the third to carry an Apollo boilerplate payload. The vehicle also orbited the first of three meteoroid technology satellites, Pegasus A. The launch vehicle (SA-9) consisted of an S-I first stage, an S-IV second stage, and an instrument unit. The Spacecraft consisted of a boilerplate command and service module, a launch escape system, and a service module/launch vehicle adapter (BP-16).

William Bergen, left, president of North American Rockwell's space Division, inspects full-scale mock-ups of Apollo spacecraft his company built for the U.S. exhibit at the Paris Air Show, May 29 - June 8. In the foreground is command module with special window to permit visitors to see interior. In background is a 82-foot completely assembled spacecraft to be seen for the first time by the public.

This vintage glossy photograph is in very good condition.
