SOLD MR-4 Spacecraft Recovery Attempt 10 x 8 B/W NASA Glossy Photograph July 1961 Water came rushing out of the "Liberty Bell 7" spacecraft after going under the water during a recovery attempt. Seconds after this photograph was taken the Marine helicopter dropped the spacecraft and it sank to the ocean floor. Astronaut Virgil I. Grissom was already aboard the helicopter and out of danger. The Liberty Bell 7 was eventually recovered from 15,000 feet below the surface of the Atlantic on July 20, 1999. This very fine NASA glossy photograph is in near mint condition and was printed using the same process, paper and logo on the back as the vintage prints. |

£6.95 MR-4 Liberty Bell 7 Lost 10 x 8 B/W NASA Glossy Photograph 21 July 1961 Marine helicopter #32 hovers dangerously with its wheels almost in the water in a final attempt to save the Liberty Bell 7 from sinking in the ocean. The helicopter was forced to let the spacecraft go when the pilot received a danger signal informing him that his engine was overheating. The pilot hung on until his wheels were in the water before he finally let go. This very fine NASA glossy photograph is in near mint condition. |
