Apollo 10 Second Stage Barging To KSC

The 81-foot-long second stage for the Apollo 10 Saturn V is barged through the KSC's open Banana River Bridge en route to LC39 assembly area. The stage was transported from the Michoud Assembly Facility in Louisiana by the ocean-going barge Point Barrow. There it will be transferred to a shuttle barge at Port Canaveral for another 4-hour journey to the Vehicle Assembly Building turning basin for off-loading.

Apollo 10 First Stage Arrives At KSC

KSC technicians are seen off loading the Apollo 10 first stage from the NASA barge Orion (not in view) after the 138-foot long stage arrived at LC39's turning basin. This first stage was barged from the Michoud Assembly Facility in Louisiana to KSC's VAB for stacking the Apollo 10 Saturn V space vehicle.

The 58-foot long stage will be transported directly to the VAB for stacking on its mobile launcher in High Bay 3 with the other components that will stack up to the mighty Saturn V Space Vehicle.

The Apollo 10 Lunar Module (4) has just had its landing gear attached in the Manned Spacecraft Operations Building at the Cape. The landing gear is one of the last components to be installed and then it will undergo extensive "checkouts" before the completed Lunar Module-4 is mated with its Lunar Module Adapter (SLA), and then finally stacked on top of the mighty Saturn V (505) launch vehicle.

Here is a wonderful top-to-bottom view of the Apollo 10 Saturn V stack in High Bay 3 in the Vehicle Assembly Building. This is a very clear and crisp photo as you can clearly see the workmen on the movable work platforms that can be retracted when not in use. The Apollo 10 Saturn V is sitting on Mobile Launcher 3 in High Bay 3 inside the VAB. This is the first time that this High Bay and Mobile Launcher  were used.
