AC-5 & Surveyor SD-1 Lift Off

2 March 1965

NASA's fifth experimental Atlas/Centaur D 156D Launch Vehicle (LV-3C) lifts off from Launch Complex 36A at 8:25 a.m. EST on 2 March 1965 with the Surveyor SD-1 as a payload.

The main stage prematurely cut off causing the vehicle to fall back on the pad and explode.

The AC-5 Launch Vehicle was to have put the  Surveyor SD-1 into a geosynchronous transfer orbit.

This fine NASA glossy photograph is in near mint condition with NASA's purple logo and text on the back.
