Space Shuttle Orbiter Enterprise #2

13 March 1978

The day after its arrival in Huntsville, workers from the Marshall Space Flight Centre and the Kennedy Space Centre laboured long into the evening hours to remove the Space Shuttle Enterprise from the back of its 747 carrier aircraft. It took two cranes to lift the 70-ton spacecraft off the 747.

The Crawler Transporter, carrying Mobile Launcher Platform number three with twin solid rocket boosters bolted to it, inches along the crawlerway at various speeds up to one mph during special test designed to gather vibration data. This data will be used to develop future maintenance requirements on transporter equipment and the flight hardware.
