SOLD STS-1 Columbia Assembled For Flight #3 10 x 8 Colour NASA Photograph NASA No. 108-KSC-80PC-604 25 November 1980 Assembly of the first Space Shuttle vehicle was completed today with the mating of the Orbiter Columbia to its external tank (ET) and two Solid Rocket Boosters (SRB) in the Vehicle Assembly Building's High Bay 3. The twin solid rocket boosters and the external propellant tank were stacked on the Mobile Launcher Platform in High Bay 3 in January and November respectively. The schedule calls for the rollout of the assembled Space Shuttle to Pad A at LC-39 just after Christmas. This very fine vintage colour NASA photograph is in mint condition. |

The booster casting floating vertically (seen in photograph) and mostly submerged at this point because it is partially filled with sea water, will be de-watered and towed back horizontally, to facilities where it will go through processing readying it for another mission. Two special built ships, the Liberty Star and Freedom Star, will recover the SRB's and tow them back to the Cape for high pressure cleaning to prepare them for reloading and reuse on another STS mission. Has cancellation "Cape Canaveral, 12 April 1981" AND on the back is KSC's Numbered stamp. These were only available on the day at the Cape. This fine vintage colour NASA photograph is in very good condition. |
