First Photo Taken Of Completed STS-1

This high angle view from atop the VAB is one of the very first photographs taken of the fully erected STS-1 launch and space vehicle with the ET and two solid rocket boosters attached. Columbia has just exited from the VAB inching its way along the 3.5 mile crawlerway to Pad A of Colmplex 39.

STS-1 On Pad A Of Launch Complex 39

STS-1 completed it three-and-a-half-mile journey from the VAB to Launch Complex 29's Pad A. The vehicle emerged from the VAB shortly after 8 a.m. on 29 December as was on the hardstand approximately seven-and-a-half hours later. The first Space Shuttle assembly was moved to the launch pad to undergo extensive testing in preparations for it first space flight.

Commander John Young reviews clipboard notes and procedures in forward flight deck commanders ejection seat (S1) wearing communication kit assembly (assy) headset (hdst) while hdst cable floats at his side. Soon after the launch phase of STS-1, crewmembers changed from their high altitude pressure garments into the light blue constant wear garment. Commanders Station control panels, rotational hand controller (RHC), crewman optical alignment sight (COAS), forward windows, window shade, and flight mirror assy appear in view.

Has cancellation "Cape Canaveral, 12 April 1981"

AND on the back is KSC's Numbered stamp. These were only available on the day at the Cape.

A very nice artist's concept depicting the Shuttle Orbiter placing a Space Tug and payload in Earth orbit.

Has cancellation "Cape Canaveral, 12 April 1981"

AND on the back is KSC's Numbered stamp. These were only available on the day at the Cape.

Same as the above photo but the stamp has smudged and can no longer be read.
